Dear Patrick:

I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to do so many public service announcements with us on your Indianapolis tour. As soon as post—production is complete I will forward copies to you. I am enclosing copies of a couple of newspaper articles done as a result of your visit. WISH-TV, News 8, the CBS affiliate also featured you on their noon and 5PM news that evening.

Once again thank you for a very enjoyable morning. It was just amazing to watch the faces in the audience as you spoke. I guess people just don’t believe it till they see and hear you. You were really awe-inspiring. This was the best conference the Alliance for Health Promotion has ever sponsored, with well over 300 in attendance, due in great part to the fact that you were one of the speakers.

We’ll look forward to working with you again.

Best Regards,

Carrie Van Dyke, Director

Dear Mr. Reynolds:

On behalf of the American Lung Association of Eastern Missouri, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for your presentation to our youth from the Southwest Middle School and our health care professionals from St. Louis University Hospital School of Nursing.

On Monday, December 8, 1997, many were filled with excitement about the pledge that our young people took to remain smoke free. The inspirational message you delivered has given me a new sense of direction in educating the community. Through this education our community will be empowered with a better understanding of the importance of an increased excise tax. With our youth it is vital that we give them a sense of hope and you began that process with your visit.

Again, it’s been an honor to meet you!

Warm regards,

Melba R. Moore, Director
Tobacco-Use Prevention and Control

Dear Patrick:

Exciting! Focused! Uplifting! On behalf of the American Lung Association of North Dakota I want to thank you for your visit to North Dakota and presentations on tobacco issues.

The luncheon the American Lung Association of North Dakota hosted for you, the ALA of N.D. board, Beth and Dr. Jim Hughes representing the N.D. School of Respiratory Care (St. Alexius Medical Center), Dr. Hughes as President of the Tobacco Free N.D. Coalition, and Claude Dockter, President of the Dakota Society of Respiratory Care Practitioners, was well received.

Your attendance was vital in not only addressing the subject of the health risks of tobacco, but that of forming a rallying point around which the various coalitions addressing this issue, could gather. All these independent yet interlocking groups have issues of concern. But it is only through a visit by someone of your stature that these groups can be gathered, and the "family bonds" strengthened in our joint efforts to address the tobacco issue.

The meetings with legislators and lobbyists, the above luncheon, the speech to the Society of Respiratory Care Practitioners, and then the rally at the Civic Center where over 2,000 kids were gathered from schools all across North Dakota, was an action—packed day. These kids, representing the Smoke Free Class of 2,000, are the peer leaders in their schools, and your impact will be dramatic and far—reaching.

Although your schedule was tight, each presentation was well prepared, delivered, and received. It is a sincere pleasure to work with a true professional as it relates to your knowledge, organization, and delivery. You are welcome back here anytime.

I can say with confidence to any group contemplating bringing Patrick Reynolds to town, the benefits will be greater than your expectations. Congratulations, and thank you again.

Sincerely yours,

William Austin, O.D.
Executive Director
American Lung Association of North Dakota

To Whom It May Concern:

Patrick Reynolds’ lecture on the truth about smoking and the Tobacco Industry was a huge success on our campus. As a lecturer, he was both motivational and inspirational. I would readily recommend him to any campus or organization. His popularity with the local media enabled his lecture to virtually promote itself. We were extremely pleased with this large turnout, it was one of our best to date. Don’t miss this one.

Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at (509) 533-7092.

Very truly yours,

Michel Portch
Student Activities Council Chairman

Dear Patrick:

On behalf of the Pittsburg State University, Performing Arts & Lecture Series and our Co—Sponsors at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, I take this opportunity to thank you for your presentation November 14, the Eve of the Great American Smokeout.

From the initial contact with you a few weeks prior and through your delivery, I was convinced you were the "block buster program" needed to address this issue. Your sacrifices, commitment and articulation of the subject matter are a programmer’s ideal. The audience felt a true, personal bond as your presentation progressed. Rarely, at this University do our audience members vie for position during a question and answer period and never have I seen a speaker shake every hand in the room during a reception, as you did.

I am equally impressed at your ability to not only draw all three major television networks, but to work with them so very well. I can tell you, they do not deal with that everyday.

I also, venture safely to say you and your message will be very popular on the campus scene as we move through the 90’s. Please feel free to use me as a reference in your pursuits.

Again, many thanks for squeezing us in!

Sincerely,

Scott Ewing,
Asst. Dir. Student Center/ Student Activities

Dear Patrick Reynolds,

I am writing to express my gratitude for the wonderful job that you did with the Convocation at Weber State University. I wanted to tell you of the extensive media coverage that you received. You were on the front page of the local section of the paper and also on the front page of the school paper. The timing was great because the legislators were In the process of passing a bill that would ban smoking in all the restaurants in the area. I was excited because that type of publicity Is exactly what the program needs to further its success in the community.

The content of the speech was very informative and also very timely. Our campus is in the process of limiting the places where one can smoke and the information about side stream smoking was very important for people to hear. Many people were amazed to hear the immoral acts being committed by the tobacco companies with respect to the target markets and also the export business.

The event was one of the best attended Convocations of the quarter. I have heard many people express that they were impressed with not only how personable you were but also your knowledge of the topic. It has sparked a lot controversy and people have begun to take sides and voice their options about the smoking issue. It was great to have you here and I wanted to thank you for everything.

Sincerely,

Jeffery Hatch
Convocation Chair
Weber State University

Dear Mr. Reynolds:

It is difficult to describe either in a news story or in a personal letter the enormously positive impact you had on those who attended your presentation at Chattanooga State on April 26. On behalf of the campus and the high school visitors, I wish to thank you for including Chattanooga on your agenda.

I am enclosing two copies of the April issue of The Communicator. If you would like more, let me know. I had to cut more than half the story to fit it in, but I hope what remains touches on the most crucial of your objectives.

Good luck in your most worthwhile endeavor.

Sincerely,

Dear Patrick:

On behalf of UCI Lectures thank you so much for presenting your outstanding lecture entitled "TARWARS: The Battle for a Smoke-Free Society." UCI students, faculty, staff, and community members who attended your lecture last week in the Crystal Cove auditorium were unanimous in their praise of your excellent talk. Your lecture emphasizing the dangers of second— hand smoke, the psychology of tobacco advertising campaigns, and the efforts of the tobacco industry to promote their product at home and abroad was most informative.

Thanks so much for coming to UC Irvine and participating in our 1992-93 UCT Student Affairs Lecture Series. It was a pleasure to meet you and hear your message. Enclosed are photos of you taken at your lecture. Enjoy! Best Wishes for your continued success and have a happy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Reynolds,

I am writing to thank you for your participation in the World No-Tobacco Day ceremony in Vancouver on 31 May held during the 2nd World Congress and Exposition on Child Health. You certainly received good media coverage and contributed to the success of the Day.

We were pleased to note that, of all the sessions of the Congress, the events to mark World No-Tobacco Day attracted the highest audience, around 1500 people, and your excellent presentation obviously went down very well with them. It is our intention to reproduce selected parts of your speech in our quarterly publication Tobacco Alert.

We would like to offer you our best wishes in your endeavours in informing the public of the dangers of nicotine addiction, especially your dedication in trying to prevent young people from taking up the habit, and for joining WHO’s goal of a tobacco-free society.

Yours sincerely,

Dr J.R. Menchaca

Good Morning, Patrick!

What a delightful experience it was having you on campus this week. Your presentation was excellent! The students turned out in large numbers; in fact, I estimate that almost a third of our on-campus population was there. The community also turned out in a much larger than usual way to hear you.

Not only did you give us a successful event, but you were a great boost to our public image. The media covered your visit. One of our local TV stations has even done a series on smoking so you have had Mississippi College’s name before the public a great deal. The print media as you know gave you/us a lot of ink with a front section-page feature story. As you know, that story took up almost three quarters of the page. I cannot imagine what that would have cost us, if it were even buyable. I believe your taking time to talk to the writer on the telephone was key in that.

Best of all was the opportunity to get to know you! Oftentimes a big name speaker will come in and not really have time for the folks who brought them. Not so with you! You were so willing to talk to everyone after the speech. In fact you literally were the last person out of the building!

Thanks again for coming to Mississippi College. I’m so glad that our paths crossed. Please come back to Mississippi soon!

Sincerely,

Tom Washburn
Dean of Students

ABOUT PATRICK REYNOLDS

Patrick Reynolds saw his father, oldest brother, and other relatives die from cigarette-induced emphysema and cancer. Concerned about the mounting health evidence against tobacco, in 1986 this grandson of R.J. Reynolds turned his back on his family’s business and became, in the words of former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, "one of the nation’s most influential advocates of a smokefree America." His book, THE GILDED LEAF, a biography detailing the rise of the R.J. Reynolds family, was published by Little, Brown in 1989. Patrick Reynolds customizes talks for clients, and his dynamic talks captivate and motivate groups.

This dynamic speaker has addressed Congress, State legislatures, numerous major corporations, associations, health groups, and schools. His many appearances in the national media have made him a celebrated figure. He has been profiled by Time, Newsweek, AP, UPI, and by dozens of the world’s major dailies. He has made memorable appearances on Oprah, Phil Donahue, The Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, Larry King, ABC’s Nightline, Tom Snyder and many other national shows. He has also been profiled by ABC World News, NBC’s Tom Brokaw, CBS’s Dan Rather, and CNN Headline News. Patrick Reynolds will be the highlight of your conference!

"The Kickoff was a great success as evidenced by the media coverage (T.V., radio, newspaper) that participated. Your presentation was the highlight of the afternoon’s agenda, and you were definitely the person who drew the media coverage.

Tom Uram,
County of Orange

Patrick Reynolds captivates corporate audiences and packs the house at his University talks. At health conferences, he inspires attendees by reminding them how necessary, appreciated and valuable their work is. At fundraisers, Patrick Reynolds motivates donors by acknowledging them and the importance of the charity’s work. Corporations who sponsor his talk before elementary and high schools build community goodwill and bask in plenty of positive print and broadcast media coverage.
